Using pop up displays as trade show displays

Pop-Up Displays  are a popular style of trade show displays, and are seen the world over at various large and small events. When should your company use a pop up display and when when should you consider a different trade show display? Determining the answer to this question will probably help you in deciding whether you need to invest in other, more complex styles of trade show display, beyond a table top display and pop up banner stand.

If your business isn’t used to presenting a trade show exhibit you may fall into the trap of  ”one size fits all”  -  roll out the display, smile nicely, give out a few promotional gifts and brochures and rake in the cash! I’m sure this isn’t your mindset, and you are aware of the time and money which trade shows eat up. Being prepared for the various types of trade show situation will help you decide which trade show display you will need to use in every situation.

So, the question is – should a Pop up Trade Show Display be used in each of these following situations?

1. The local shopping mall in your town is giving exhibitors various locations so they can get customers’ attention as they walk from store to store.

Answer: YES, a pop up trade show display will work well in this situation. Most of the other exhibitors will only have a small table top display, so you’ll stand out from the crowd.

2. You are part of a local chamber of commerce event, introducing new members to the other businesses. This is a key opportunity to network and develop local business to business buyers.

Answer: YES, a pop up display will display a good impression of your company to others in the town, especially if you have developed a really good graphic for your display. You’ll probably look better than most of the other participants without looking too flashy. :)

3. There is a convention in the local trade and convention center reaching a state wide audience. You’ll have a lot of footfall traffic over the weekend trade show.

Answer: Yes, most likely! On a state wide level the most popular trade show display is still a Table Top Display, so if you decide to use a pop up display you’ll stand out from many of those around you, and look better than most.

4. Your regional convention is being held in the largest conference center in  the local big city and you want to attract customers  for your business from all over the state, and hope to land a big fish too! A good number of your direct competitors are going to be at this trade show as well as a few national companies who compete in your market.

Answer: This isn’t a straight forward answer. Maybe not! At this level of trade show the minimum level of display being used will be a pop up display and perhaps some kind of table top display. The reality is you won’t be differentiating yourself from your direct competitors if youre using the same shaped booth that over half of all the exhibitors in the hall are using. You’ll probably just blend in with the crowd, and that is bad news! Your company may well have better customer service, better pricing, better delivery times, any number of benefits for the trade show visitor to choose you over everyone else, but if they don’t see you for the other 100 pop up displays in the way…

5, The annual  national convention in your market is going to be a few states away, and you’re considering exhibiting for the first time. It will be even harder to stand out from your competitors at this level.

Answer: Most likely not. If you want to look like the small regional guy that’s fine, but generally if you are wanting to be dealing all over country then you have to create the trust and authority that the other national companies portray at a trade show. Where do you fit in to this situation? It’s worth bearing in mind that if you have a unique product, or have exclusive rights to a brand you can probably get away with using a pop up without too many problems.

So, at the end of the day the main thing to think about with regards to Pop up Trade Show Displays is  how you look when pitched up at a trade show,  next to your competition. Trade show displays can cost quite a bit of money, so until you decide to move up to the bigger trade show displays with modular hybrid displays or custom exhibits you’ll probably find a pop up display will meet most of your needs.
